MycoFoundry Presents at Anchorage Design Week
This past February, three of MycoFoundry’s co-founders were invited to attend Anchorage Design Week hosted by the Anchorage Museum.
Design Week is a yearly event that brings together community members and creatives to imagine the future of place-based design that supports the lifeways of Northern regions.
This year, the presentations and seminars focused on sustainable materials and practices as an avenue of promoting community connections and challenging designers to reimagine their practices in the context of the rapidly changing climate.
Under this theme, MycoFoundry co-founder and Director of the University of British Columbia’s Biogenic Architecture Lab (BAL), Joseph Dahmen, presented some recent projects including the BAL’s mycelium-based waste-separating toilet installation and MycoFoundry’s development of biobased acoustic wall panels for the construction industry.
Other notable presentations included a keynote by Carson Chan, Director of the Ambasz Institute for the Joint Study of the Built and Natural Environment at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
We want to extend a big thank you to our hosts at the Anchorage Museum, as well as the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Biomaterials Lab for making this trip possible!
MycoFoundry Takes Top Honours at BPI Connect 2024
MycoFoundry wins Best Showcase at the BioProduct Institute’s Connect Day 2024.
MycoFoundry was awarded the Best Showcase at BioProduct Institute’s (BPI) 2024 Connect Day, held at the University of British Columbia on December 6, 2024.
BPI Connect Day is an annual research event that brings together UBC researchers and governmental partners to celebrate sustainable research at BPI and highlight a collective vision for a circular future.
Isobel McLean and Lorena Polovina, co-founders of MycoFoundry and members of the Accelerating Technology Readiness (ATR) program at BPI, presented the MycoFoundry platform at the Connect Day Showcase Competition.
MycoFoundry’s showcase table at the event featured our mycelium-based materials, including a prototype mycelium-based acoustic wall panel.
MycoFoundry received the Best Showcase Award after pitching in front of 200 attendees and answering questions from judges during the afternoon.
The award includes financial support for travel, supporting the company’s mission to create carbon-negative and completely biodegradable materials for the built environment.
We are grateful for the UBC BioProducts Institute, the ATR program, Natural Resources Canada, and the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions for making Connect Day possible, and for your continued support of MycoFoundry!
